This is a beautifully written account of a murder. It is genuinely original in its approach and suitably circumspect in its conclusions. - Bruce Elder review in Spectrum lift-out of the Sydney Morning Herald.
A timeless page-turner. - Gerard Ryle, Sydney Morning Herald investigative journalist.
Well done…a very involving read. - Garry Maddox, Sydney Morning Herald film writer.

Comments about the book

“What the mother knew” is a well-written and truthful account of the murder and history of Jody Galante, and the events surrounding her murder.”

Colin Pomery (Jody’s brother).

“Very interesting, and I like how balanced it was. It didn’t go down the path of painting the killer as a ‘monster’, which is the stereotypical true-crime route.”

Alyce McGovern, lecturer in Justice Studies at Charles Sturt University.

“Edmund has captured the essence of our Jody beautifully.  This is a very well written, accurate account of Jody’s life and the events surrounding her death and the subsequent charade that followed. Naturally the telling of this story has reopened old wounds for us but Edmund made this process bearable, with his amazing compassion and insight and his tenacity to get to the truth.  I wanted a true and accurate account of Jody’s life and her death for Zayla (Jody’s daughter), and now I have it.  This book will be put away for her to read when the time comes and she wants answers to her questions.”

Tina Good (Jody’s sister).

“I thought it was well-written and engaging and finished it within a few hours. I couldn’t put it down.”

Samantha Townsend, reader.

“I just wanted to let you know that I received a copy of your book on Monday evening and I did not put it down until the last page was read.”

Sarah Grant, a friend of Jody’s.

“I got the book the other day, and started reading it on Friday night.  Needless to say it was a late night as I couldn’t put it down, and read the whole book in the one sitting.

“Firstly, I thought the book was great!  I thought it was really well written (not that I am an expert), but I do read a lot of books, and have a special interest in true stories.  I do read crime stories, but also any other true stories that capture my interest.

“I liked that it filled in the gaps, and completed the story for me (having followed it in the news and then watching Australian Story).  Some of the books that I have read similar to this one, I find too long, and have so much information that doesn’t seem necessary to the reader.  I like to get all the information to piece the story together, but not all the other info that doesn’t relate.  The author has obviously done some thorough research, and put the story together really well.”

Leesa Dick, reader.

“I found this story to not only be incredibly accurate, and to the point….but it also showed the Family’s pain and frustration over the past two years….it showed the real hero’s in this tragic tale…Tina as the Single parent who took on the world…Julie who vowed never to give upand Colin the rock who stood with his broad shoulders to form an alliance with his mother and sister to bring Jody’s murderer to justice. I am very proud of all three.”

Susan Good, Tina’s relative.
